Dr. Lana Scherrer

My name is Lana Scherrer. I am a native Floridian and licensed veterinarian in both Florida and Massachusetts.

Ever since I was a young child, my dream was to become a veterinarian and help animals. I am so fortunate and blessed to not only have such a passion but to fulfill it. As a young adult, I became heavily involved in animal welfare issues involving not only dogs and cats but also animals raised for food production. In 2003, I founded a non-profit, 501 C-3 animal rescue and charity dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets. My mom and I have not only provided medical care but have found forever homes to countless animals throughout the years.

Having grown up in South Florida, I attended Florida Atlantic University where I obtained a Bachelor in Biological Sciences. Following graduation, I then attended the University of Sydney, School of Veterinary Medicine in Sydney, Australia. After returning home as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, I completed my rotating internship with Blue Pearl Emergency and Specialty Hospitals in Massachusetts.

Throughout my years of studying, rescuing animals and being a pet mom myself, my empathy towards my patients and their parents grew tremendously. I felt helpful and needed when I was able to be there during very difficult times. I also found a tremendous need for certain veterinary services to be offered outside of the hospital. Having our pets put to rest is a process that involves so many mixed emotions for all involved and being able to provide this in the comfort of your own home is so beneficial. Animals feel better even in the worst of times when they are comfortable, relaxed and as stress free as possible. My goal is to send them back to God with all of the dignity and respect they deserve while giving my clients the time and privacy to partake in such a personal and emotional ordeal.

Every home I enter, every patient I can help, empowers me to not only continue this work but to really appreciate the human-animal bond with God’s creatures. As pet parents, we strive for the very best care for our babies throughout all stages of their lives and their deaths are no exception. Having the ability to end suffering whether that be due to illness or just changes that develop from old age is a beautiful gift we can give them, a heartfelt kindness.
